We decided to begin with who has been here since day one: we are talking about Marco Cervio, historical memory of the company, first hired 30 years ago and code-named “Aquila 1” (in company terminology, the operators of the Monitoring Room are called “Aquile” and each one is associated with a number in order of entry into the company).
Marco, can you tell us about your path in Multiprotexion?
I was Monitoring Room operator for a few years, later becoming its manager. The company has grown a lot in the meantime, and over the years there was the need to create a team to take care of control unit configurations and repair of faulty devices: I therefore became part of this department and remained there until a couple of years ago, when I was proposed to help the service manager, a position which I accepted with great enthusiasm and which I currently hold.
How has the company changed throughout the years?
Multiprotexion has radically changed, firstly its name has changed (the first was Multimedia). Moreover the headquarter has completely changed: today we have a beautiful location in Gropello Cairoli, if i think back to the “little cage” in Garlasco where we started… In addition to these aspects, the size of the company has changed, which over the years it has seen an exponential growth in both the number of employees and the number of vehicles connected: I remember the first night shifts between Sunday and Monday when we would take turns complaining that there were 10 vehicles to control that night, now there are thousands of vehicles connected.
What are the aspects of Multiprotexion that you appreciate most?
Definitely the fact that this is a company that has always focused on young people and the fact that there is a great relationship between staff and managers, everyone knows their role very well but no one has ever imposed themselves for their position, but for their preparation, thus giving credibility and authority to the person.
Over so many years you certainly have many stories to tell, can you remember of one in particular?
In the beginning, when I was an operator of the Monitoring Room, our manager had pointed out to us a customer who claimed to be a very important person of high standing, to whom we obviously paid the highest attention by immediately handling every his phone call. At a certain point, he started calling us more and more frequently, making the strangest requests: first to call him back every two minutes because he was being followed, then every minute, then to stay with him for some time on the phone. We realised how strange this client was, but he had so much credibility that we accommodated his every request. After a few months he stopped calling and we found out the poor man was admitted to a psychiatric ward.
We would like to thank Marco Cervio for staying with us to tell us a taste of the Multiprotexion story and look forward to seeing you at the next edition of “OUR STAFF TALK ABOUT US”.
